Angie Chan, R.P.

REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Starting at $170

I believe in creating a safe space for individuals, couples and families where they can be their authentic and vulnerable selves so that they can explore through issues that may be getting in the way of living the life that they yearn for. My approach to counselling is warm, non-judgemental, collaborative, casual and with a hint of vulnerability. Some of the therapy modalities that I use are Narrative Therapy, CBT, DBT, EFST, and Solutions-focused. I love using play and art informed therapy to help my clients explore through their thoughts and/or feelings.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and hold a Master of Divinity degree in Clinical Counselling at Tyndale University. I have specific training and certifications in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Emotion Focused Skills Training. I have worked with children, youth and their families in various specialized programs. I have worked with many clients facing a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, family conflict, grief, trauma, relationship issues, behavioural concerns, self-esteem/self-worth issues, stress, and difficulty in adjusting to life transitions. I am also trained in suicide prevention and ASIST. I am currently getting certified in Encounter Coaching.

Please note that I am currently working as a Child and Family Therapist at York Hills.

Q&As

  • What’s one thing I need to know about your counselling approach?

I have to be honest with you. I absolutely LOVE giving homework. Of course, I won’t be asking for a four-page essay on your feelings, but just little experiments and new strategies to try out in your day-to-day life. Sometimes, my homework could be trying out a new place to eat! It all depends on your goals.

  • What’s a motto or quote that you often go to when you are facing a difficult time?

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows; it empties today of its strength.”

    - Corrie Ten Boom
